2nd grade students at Tom Green Elementary participated in the Monster Match videoconference this week. Ms. Limas’ bilingual class created a monster and shared a written description with their partner class at Hemphill Elementary, Ms. Ramirez’ class. Each class replicated the other class monster based on the written description. When the classes met via videoconference, they checked to see if they had created a “Monster Match”. Following the videoconference, Ms. Limas’ class completed a Venn Diagram as a class. Using the document camera made the process of comparing the similarities and differences between the monsters easy.

Tom Green 2nd grade students learned about local, state and national landmarks while participating in the district’s Landmark Challenge videoconference collaboration. “My students learned so much from participating in this project”, stated teacher Saundra Turner. This was Ms. Turner’s first videoconference and she was very pleased with the outcome. Ms. Turner’s students gave a special thanks to Ann Ybarbo, the Instructional Technologist, for setting this up and facilitating the videoconference with her class. Four Tom Green 2nd grade teachers participated in this unit, and all agreed that it was a very valuable learning experience for the students.
