SHES students loved learning about bluebonnets.
Kindergarten students in Mrs. Grim and Mrs. Chitta’s classes participated in a videoconference about our state flower provided by students in Ms. Hoke’s class at Lehman High School. The LHS students are participating in the Kids Creating Community Content (KC3) contest and used the VC with our Kindergarten Suns as practice. Our students had a blast learning about the bluebonnet, including the parts and history of the flower. After the presentation the students used materials sent from Lehman to create their own bluebonnet and show what they learned. Be on the look out for bluebonnets in your neighborhood!

Kindergarten Students in Ms. Moore’s class collaborated virtually with another kinder class from Elmira Heights SD in New York. Throughout the week students and Mr. Puga read the book Valentine Bears by Eve Bunting and discussed the earth’s seasons, hibernation, and diet patterns of bears. Students then brainstormed ideas of what they would miss during the winter months if they had to hibernate like bears. Each student wrote and illustrated a scene of what they would miss the most during the hibernation period. We then met virtually with Ms. Beach’s Kindergarten class and shared their projects. Both classes were excited to meet and additionally discussed some of the differences between New York and Texas.

Ms. Buskness class visisted our computer lab as a follow-up on a classroom lesson on weather cycles. Kindergarten students created and compared weather cycles through a holiday theme. Students enjoyed using Tux Paint software, which allows them to use their creative and digital skills.

During the week last of October Ms. Thomason’s class, Ms. Swearingen’s class, Ms. Rholes’ class and Ms. Gripp’s class participated in Video Conferences called M O N S T E R M A T C H
Last week each class create monsters using Math terms and then wrote descriptions that were posted on the Hays CISD Distance Learning Wiki. A partner class at another school did the same. Using the description of the other monster our students used those clues to create the other classes monsters.
During the video conference the students showed their original monster and the other class showed what they created from the description. Then a Venn Diagram was made to record the similarities and differences. This was done for each monster at both schools.
The students and teachers used skills in math and writing to create the monster. Then they used reading and math skills to construct the monster from a description.
